Lorne Adventure Fest race changes due to extreme weather

Friday, December 5, 2014

Please note the following changes to this weekend’s Lorne Adventure Fest due to the forecast of extreme weather.

Lorne Adventure Race

The Lorne Adventure Race will now take place at 8am on Saturday 6th December.

This is exactly 24hrs earlier than originally scheduled.

The conditions forecast of 25-30knot ESE winds on Sunday are expected to result in swimming and paddling conditions that are well beyond the capabilities of 70-80% of the competitor field; and will jeopardise the safety of our competitors.

This change has been made to allow the event to proceed safely with all four disciplines still included in the race.

At this stage the paddle course will be a two-lap circuit of Loutit Bay and all other legs remain the same. The event cut off times remain unchanged.

Lorne MINI Adventure Race

The Lorne Mini Adventure Race will now commence at 8.20am on Saturday 6th December.

It will be one mass start for ALL Mini competitors.

The start time change is due to weather forecast predictions of increasing winds from an adverse direction later in the day on Saturday 6th December.

The swim course will follow the last 600m of the Lorne Adventure Race course. Competitors will start near the surf club and swim out approx. 100m before turning left and swimming parallel with the shoreline for 400m before turning left and returning to shore. Swimmers will then have to run approx. 300m into the transition area, which will be located in the bike compound.

The Mini paddle course will consist of one lap only of Loutit Bay. This will be same lap as the Lorne Adventure Race competitors, who are completing two laps.

The run and mountain bike legs remain unchanged and the cut off times are the same as those published for the Lorne Adventure Race.

Registration and Race Briefing

Registration will be available at the Adventure Expo from 6.00pm to 9.00pm today, Friday, and from 6.00am on Saturday morning.

A race briefing for the Mini and the Adventure Race will be held at the Adventure Expo at 7.00am on Saturday 6th December. New course maps, where required, will be posted on the event noticeboard in the expo area.

Lorne Junior Survivor

Due to changes to the times of the Lorne Adventure Race and Mini Adventure Race, Lorne Junior Survivor will now start at 4.30pm on Saturday 6th December, instead of 3.30pm.

Presentations for all races will commence at 5.30pm Saturday 6th December in the Adventure Expo.

What if I (or my team) can’t attend the race at the revised time on Saturday?

Rapid Ascent is happy to offer you a refund of your entry fee. Please contact Claire at [email protected] by 5pm Wednesday 10th December to arrange.

Alternatively, we would like to offer you half price entry fee to the Falls Creek Mountain Raid Adventure Race, 14-15 February 2015. That’s a discount of $650. For more information visit www.MountainRaid.com.au

I was entered into both events. What do I do now?

Please choose your preferred event and advise Claire at Registration. A refund will be provided for the other event or credit provided for attendance at an alternative Rapid Ascent event, whichever you’d prefer.

We thank all competitors, volunteers and sponsors for their understanding and flexibility in adapting to these changes. We appreciate the hours of training you have dedicated and the distance that many of you have travelled to attend the event and feel these changes are the best option. Please ensure all your team members receive this advice.

This has been a really difficult decision to make however competitor safety is the highest priority for Rapid Ascent. Thank you for your support.

For any concerns please call 03 5261 5511, email [email protected] or see the team at Registration.
