Forster Anaconda Adventure Race course familiarisation weekends

GENERAL INFO

To allow competitors in the Forster Anaconda Adventure Race to check the course before the race itself, Rapid Ascent will be conducting a course familiarisation weekend in weeks leading up to the race itself.

These days provide an ideal opportunity for all prospective competitors to get a good insight into what the event will entail, to see what the course is like as well as meet a few other athletes and enjoy the beautiful Forster and Great Lakes areas!

The weekend is basically an informal training session where all interested competitors are welcome to join us as we lead groups along the course. They are open to everyone (even if you have not entered) and are free of charge to attend. We will provide leadership on the day but otherwise all competitors should be self supported and be able to transport their equipment to the various transition points along the course themselves.

We will run over the entire course on each familiarisation day, completing each leg in the order it will be done during on race day. You do not have to do the entire course on each familiarisation day or even both days but can pick and choose which disciplines you want to do and come and meet us specifically for those.

Each familiarisation day will commence at 8:00 with the swim leg and then proceed from there. You only need to meet us at the starting point and time for the leg(s) you want to do so unless you are doing the swim leg, you can meet us later as listed in the details below. Pending numbers on the day, we will split into different groups with separate leaders for faster, medium paced and slower competitors and we ask that those groups stay together throughout each discipline.

Whilst the familiarisation days are completely non committal, it really helps us if we know how many people are likely to attend each one, so please give register your interest at the top of this page.

The Forster Anaconda Adventure Race familiarisation weekends will be held on:

You do not have to do the entire course on each familiarisation day, you can pick and choose which disciplines you want to do and come and meet us at the start time and location for the leg(s) you are doing. As such, the schedule below indicates where and at what time we will commence each leg (the approximate Transition Area used on race day).

Even if you are an individual or pair (who is doing the whole thing) we ask that you please stick to the following time table so that all athletes start each leg together – you might appreciate the rest between each leg too! Likewise, even if your team can complete each leg quicker than the times listed below, we ask that all participants in each leg start at the same time so we are not spread out across the whole course and are closer together for safety reasons.

We greatly encourage all participants in the familiarisation days to be self sufficient for transport around the course on the familiarisation day. We will help shuttle some drivers and car keys from leg to leg but it helps if you are self sufficient also. If this proves particularly difficult please call Wayne Gooley on 04122 89175 who can help.

Schedule for each the course familiarisation weekend

SATURDAY

8:00am Meet at Forster main beach. Walk / run to the swim start
8:30 Swim starts
9:30 Meet at Forster main beach for paddle leg
9:45 Set off on paddle. Note – we will do an out and back paddle of equivalent distance to the actual leg on race day. This will mean that you will finish where your cars are at Forster main beach and not need to do a car shuffle
12:45 Meet at Santa Barbara for Mt Bike leg (Note, its a 10 minute drive from Forster to Santa Barbara). If you are wanting to do the run immediately after the mtb, we suggest you carry your running shoes with you on the bike. This will make logistics easier.
1:00 Set off on mtb
3:15 Meet at Sandbar for run (Note, its a 15 minute drive from Santa Barbara to Sandbar, 25 minutes from Forster)
3:30 Set off on run. Note we will do an out and back run along the run leg so we will finish back where we started making logistics far easier.

SUNDAY

8:00am Meet at Seal Rocks beach (the first beach you come to on the left as you drive in) (Note, its a 40 minute drive from Forster to Seal Rocks)
30 Start swim
9:15 Meet at the southern end of the Seal Rocks ‘Boat Beach’ for the run (the second beach in Seal Rocks as you drive in)
9:30 Set off on run leg
11:45 Meet at Bungwahl for Mt Bike leg (Note, its a 25 minute drive from Forster to Bungwal)
12:00 Set off on mtb.
3:00 Meet for paddle at the Coomba Park Jetty. (Note, its a 50 minute drive from Forster to Coomba Park, or 25 minutes Bungwahl to Coomba Park)
3:15 Set off on paddle. Note – we will do an out and back paddle that finishes back where we started to save doing a very large car shuffle to get back to cars. This paddle will be very similar to the paddle on race day

Additional points:

If you are coming to the familiarisation days, please still register with us (at the top of this page) so we know how many people to expect, and identify what leg(s) you want to do so we have a good idea of number before hand.

Safe training and see you there!
