Ex-board member of Triathlon Australia and age group gun Mark (Marto) Martin is making moves off road.
Marto - a well known age grouper in triathlon circles from his columns in Triathlon & Multi Sport and of course his slick race times - has been bitten by the off road bug and is lining up for the Anaconda Adventure Race at Tugun on the Gold Coast for the series opener on 5th August 2007.
A barrister by day and father of four by night, Marto is a keen sportsman with interests in skiing (both water and snow), kite surfing, and taekwando. However it is in triathlon where he shines, and is the Australian Olympic distance (1.5k swim, 40k bike, 10k run) champion in the 40-44 age group.
Marto comes to adventure racing via his team mate, and will be looking to use his superior running skills as a former national level middle distance runner to place his team in good position (secretly he hopes not to undo all of his good work on the Mountain Bike leg).
While he says he is looking forward to the Anaconda Adventure Race as something different from his usual training regime, you never know - we reckon he might just line up for next years event in the solo category.
