WA-based Boundless Adventure Racing has two events remaining for 2011 with each being about an hour longer winning time than the previous event. Event 1 KillaMetro was a really popular 3.5hr metropolitan event based on the the banks of the Swan River from Guildford Grammar school and the participants had a hoot - check out the results and race report here
The next event, KillaAvon on Sunday 22nd May is again open to pairs and individuals and based near Northam, about 100km east of Perth. The event will include mountain biking and foot-based sections through some great farmland scenery with an estimated winning time of 4 to 4.5hrs. The Avon River is dry enough to ride across the river bed in Northam at the moment so there will not be any paddling! As always every leg will include some low-key navigation to distinct features and include methods of keeping the field close together so that the majority of people will be able to take advantage of the coffee van and spot prizes post-event.
The final event is KillaBrook on Sunday 11th September and this will include some flat-water paddling, a variety of single track and gravel road MTBing and some farmland on-foot navigating. This should be a winning time of about 5hrs.
Ian Dalton and John Toomey are the race directors and very keen to organise events that genuinely are suitable for newcomers to the concept of adventure racing, both in terms of navigation and physical difficulty, and yet allow the experienced people the chance to race hard and fast while navigating at speed. Entry fees are very affordable, even after the earlybird cutoff closes, and their sponsors have provided a range of product for placegetter prizes and spot prizes.
