Race & Event Overview

If you are at all similar to the other participants in this event; you live for a good weekend… you live for the opportunity to escape the shackles of everyday life, to get some fresh air, mix with some mates, tackle a challenge and enjoy an adventure. If this sounds like you then welcome to your nirvana.

Set amongst the picturesque Otway Ranges and Great Ocean Road landscapes around Lorne in Victoria’s south, the Anaconda Adventure Race gives you all this and more as an off-road sporting event and terrific weekend of fun. (So it’s of no great surprise that doing ‘The Anaconda’ has become a bit of an institution around the country!!)

Take part in this spectacular event you will swim across the crystal clear Loutit Bay in Lorne, paddle along the cliffs and golden beaches flanking the Great Ocean Road; run through rainforests and mountain bike down heart thumping descents with 1200 or your newest best mates. As race three in the International Adventure Race Series, the Anaconda Adventure Race at Lorne is an achievable challenge that anyone can be part of.

Combine all this action with an adventure expo with kids entertainment, live commentary, food, drinks, displays and free stuff(!) and you’ve found the weekend you’ve been hankering for.

You can GO THE DISTANCE.

Choose your style and get involved - the Anaconda Adventure Race can be completed in a range of categories to get anyone and everyone to onto the start then over the finish line:
  • Individuals – do every leg as a non stop race around the track. Designed for heros and want-to-bes
  • Pairs – do every leg but in the company of your mate who’s by your side the whole way round
  • Relay teams – with up to 4 people where you do one (or more) legs each. A great way to get involved without being a super hero – build up a team of friends and work colleagues and join all the fun

Paddling

Not being a paddler is no longer a valid excuse for not giving the Anaconda a crack. We have a range of paddling sessions leading up to the event that will get even the most beginner paddlers surfing down waves and whooping with delight all the way around the paddle course!

Surf Ironman legend (and recent convert to multisport & adventure racing), Bruce Dunlop, conducts kayak training sessions in Torquay year round, and then runs larger group sessions and special paddle camps in the last few months leading up to the race.

For Melbourne bound competitors, last year's winner and Bass Strait conqueror Jarad Kohlar from Peak Adventure is also conducting weekly kayak training sessions at Sandridge Life Saving Club, whilst Tim Altman who is another very accomplished paddler with many national and international titles to his name is also running sessions around Melbourne and the Surf Coast. {Click here for more details}

Training Programs

Ex-Australian champion triathlete and current adventure racer Simon Knowles from Jarasport will again be running training programs for the Anaconda Adventure Race at Lorne. Simon offers both one-on-one and group sessions for beginners and elite alike. {Check out Jarasport's website for more details.}

Course Familiarisation Sessions

Rapid Ascent will be hosting two free course familiarisation sessions in the lead up to the Anaconda Adventure Race at  Lorne.  We will lead people of all shapes and sizes over the course in a friendly, non competitive environment thats free and open to anyone to come (even if you have not yet entered). These sessions are always a lot of fun and provide a great way to see the course, meet a few other people and have a weekend down in the Otways all at once! {Click here for more information.}

Other sessions and networks for new comers

Our friends at Melbourne Adventure are always happy and willing to provide advise and ideas for those new (or experienced) to the sport. Melbourne Adventure is a triathlon, adventure racing and multisport club set up to make it easy to get into these great sports. Whether you are an elite athlete seeking professional training and support, a new comer to adventure racing wanting to meet other like minded people or an active person looking for group training and a bit of fitness, Melbourne Adventure has plenty of sessions, links and contacts for you. {Click here for more information.}
