Competitor briefing
Anaconda Mini - 7:00pm, Friday December 7th, Adventure Expo on the Lorne Foreshore
It is highly recommended that all competitors (teams and individuals) attend the competitor briefing where we will explain the course and any last minute information.
Lorne access and parking notes
The Anaconda Adventure Race weekend will bring a significant increase to the number of cars in and around Lorne. No-one wants to be stuck in traffic nor walk away with a parking fine so just be aware of the following points.
- Parking in Lorne throughout the weekend:
- Parking in and around the immediate Lorne foreshore area is limited and bylaw officers will be patrolling streets and fining people who are parked illegally.
- There is plenty of parking near the pier, along Erskine River just north of Erskine Resort and in the streets behind Mountjoy Parade (Great Ocean Road). E.g. Smith Street, Fern Avenue, William Street, Otway Street and Grove Street.
- You will not need to use your car during the event, so leave your car at your accommodation and walk to the expo area. The MTB to Team Run transition area (T4) is only 1.5km from the finish.
- Allow yourself plenty of time before the start to drop off your kayaks and mountain bikes into T1 and T3 (Lorne Foreshore) on Saturday morning.
Adventure Expo
There will be a festival atmosphere at the Adventure Expo on the Lorne Foreshore, so make sure you bring your family and friends to be a part of the action!
Adventure Expo exhibitors
There will be something for everyone with sponsors’ stands and information tents set up as part of the Adventure Expo including an on-site Anaconda store plus stalls by Fitness Paddlers, Endura Sports Nutrition, and more.
Kids’ entertainment
We have plenty of kids’ entertainment to tire out even the most active kids (aside from the Anaconda Junior Survivor Challenge taking place on Saturday afternoon – further details below). There will be a face painting and other games all within the Adventure Expo. Right next to the start / finish area is an extensive playground and skate park and of course the beach, or for a small fee, kids can have fun on the trampolines or play mini golf at the foreshore activity centre
Food, beverages and the event bar
There will be a range of tasty food and beverages available within the Adventure Expo: Sasha and Co Catering will be serving up coffee, egg & bacon rolls, cakes and other mouth-watering morsels, the Lorne Lions Club will be serving their famous snow cones along with several other food outlets to keep you well fed. The event bar will be offering beer, wine and other drinks and snacks from its location right on the finish line making it the ideal place to (start and) finish your weekend!
MC and Live Race Updates
MCs Jason Reyntjes and Jacqui Dunlop will be calling the race and providing plenty of live updates, information and interviews over race weekend from the Adventure Expo during Saturday and Sunday.
SOCIAL ADVENTURES
Anaconda farewell drinks – Event Bar
We invite everyone to join us in the Event Bar on the Lorne Foreshore as we farewell our naming rights sponsors – Anaconda – from their involvement with the Lorne Adventure Race. They have been naming rights sponsor of the event since it started 7 years ago and this race at Lorne will be the last ‘Anaconda’ branded adventure race and we thought it fitting to share a drink and relive the memories of Anacondas past. We’d also love it if you could come and sign the finish tape as a final memento of the Anaconda Adventure Race. (Don’t worry, the event at Lorne will continue next year!!)
Event Bar – Adventure Expo
There will be an Event Bar set up immediately adjacent to the finish line in the Lorne Foreshore all weekend that will also be serving beer, wines and a few soft options as well. What better way to catch up with friends or celebrate a great weekend on the coast than with a drink in the bar right in the middle of the event expo on the Lorne Foreshore where you can enjoy the race atmosphere and watch people crossing the line. [Please remember that alcoholic beverages bought from the bar can only be consumed within the cordoned off bar area].
Social media: Live event updates on Twitter #AnacondaLorne
We will be tweeting live event updates over the whole weekend so make sure you’re following Rapid Ascent at http://twitter.com/Rapid_Ascent and you’ll receive a steady stream of results, photos and news snippets from around the course as it happens under the tag #AnacondaLorne. (Tell your friends and families at home to follow us so they can keep in touch with what’s happening too).
ADVENTURE EVENTS FOR THE WHOLE FAMILY
Also taking place on race weekend will be the awesome Anaconda Junior Survivor Challenge for kids.
The incredibly popular Anaconda Junior Survivor will also be under way on Saturday afternoon as a fun, off road running and obstacle event for kids aged up to 13yrs. Filling to capacity with 650 kids each year this long anticipated event is full of laughs as kids get their chance for a dose of adventure fun. Visit the Junior Survivor webpage here for more information
ANACONDA MINI - support crew
Support crews are not mandatory. They can make logistics a bit easier but they will have virtually no impact on your overall placing if you are organised before the event. For those competing in teams, your team mates can also be your support crew as they will be going to all of the transition areas anyway (we would hope!).
General points:
- All teams will receive 2 green wrist bands for your support crew as part of your registration pack. Please ensure that support crew members wear these wrist bands as without them you will not be permitted inside the transition areas or be able to service your athletes.
- Support crews may NOT help competitors at any point outside the designated transition areas listed below. This extends to the team run, where support crew are NOT allowed to run with competitors.
- We recommend that support crews and teams mates go around all the transition areas before the race starts to drop off equipment and clothing– especially for individuals. This will make race time far less stressful than rushing to get to each transition area during the race.
One support crew person per entry is allowed to directly assist competitors at the following points only:
- In each of the designated transition areas – this is to help your competitor get changed, find their equipment or launch their boat (for example). Please bear in mind that there will be numerous other people in the transition areas as well and we ask you not to obstruct
- No other assistance can be provided at any other locations along the course
Transition Area Opening Times
Each transition area (TA) will be open for the times specified below.
Opening and closing times of each TA are listed below. Please be advised that any equipment in position outside these is left at the owner’s risk. Please also note that it is the final weekend of ‘Schoolies’ at Lorne and we encourage you to be cautious about leaving your equipment outside.

Equipment transfers
We will conduct the following equipment transfers for competitors in either the Anaconda Adventure Race and / or the Anaconda MINI to make logistics a bit easier for those without support crews.
Anaconda MINI
- T1: We will transfer your wetsuit and other swimming gear from the beach at T1 to the Race Administration marquee if you complete the following steps:
- Collect a large orange bag during race registration and write your name and race number on it. Put this bag with your paddling gear on the beach at T1
- In T1 once you have got changed, put your wetsuit and other swim gear from T1 in the orange bag and give it to a marshal before you launch your kayak. DO not just leave your bag on the beach.
- We will take your bag to the race administration marquee for you to collect after the race
T4 transport for Anaconda MINI and Anaconda Adventure Race
For competitors without support crews we offer to transfer equipment from the Race Administration marquee to the T4 (North Lorne). Please place your beach running gear (if any – the final run is OK to complete in bare feet) to go to T4 in a plastic bag, write your team number on the outside and then give it to the marshals in the Race Administration marquee before 7:00am on Sunday morning
Competitors equipment
The following items are compulsory for all legs as part of the event rules:
Numbered Race Bib
The numbered race bib will be provided to individuals, pairs (2) and the team swimmers at registration. The bib is your relay baton and must make its way around the entire course with each team member. The bib must be worn OVER THE TOP OF ALL OTHER CLOTHES AT ALL TIMES. It is a tight-fitting lycra bib that will not slow you down in the Ocean Swim (it must be worn over the top of wetsuits), but it is also super-stretchy and will fit over the top of your PFD for the kayak leg.
Anaconda Adventure Race competitors will receive Anaconda branded bibs and Anaconda MINI competitors will receive Rapid Ascent branded bibs. Please return bibs to the box immediately after crossing the finish line.
Timing band - All individuals and team runners will be given a timing band at registration to attach to your ankle as you go around the course. This timing band is also the relay baton for teams, so you MUST transfer it from one team mate to the next inside each transition area. Please take your time attaching the band and ensure it does not come off.
NOTE: Upon accepting the timing band at registration you become responsible for wearing it during the race and then returning it to us at the end of the race. If you withdraw from the event at any time please ensure you return the band to an event official ASAP. Failure to return the band will result in a fee to you of $150 (this is cost price to us for losing them!)
You will also receive two green wrist bands for your support crew. Please ensure that they wear them as no one without a wrist band will be permitted into any transition area!
TextaRace Numbers - ALL competitors will have their race number written on their arm/leg during registration in texta. Please DO NOT wash it off. This number is used if you or one of your team-mates either withdraw from the race or do not make a cut off time.
Bike number plate –Individuals and team mountain bikers will receive a number plate to go onto your bike so you can be identified whilst on the bike course. Make sure you firmly attach the number plate to the handle bars of your bike using the zip ties provided.
Other items provided in your registration bags:
- Kayak / bike / run equipment collection tokens. You or your support crew must present these when collecting the appropriate equipment from each TA.
- Plus additional items as outlined on the Event Information page.
