What is the Anaconda Adventure Race at Lorne
Some rate the 50km course for the premier Lorne Anaconda Adventure Race as one of the hardest courses in the series. Others rate it as one of the more spectacular, especially when the sun is sparkling off the ocean in front of the adventure village event HQ, making the swim and paddle look particularly alluring. And some simply rate it as a must-do event on their Bucket List of adventures.
Whatever the reason for racing at Lorne - to win, take a category honour, to have a fun day out in a team or just to get to the finish line - one thing is certain: it’ll be a race to remember.
First up, competitors face a swim around the iconic Lorne Pier and across crystal clear Loutit Bay to the cheers of thousands of spectators. Then it’s a paddle along the cliffs and golden beaches flanking the iconic Great Ocean Road while surfing friendly southern ocean swells. Back on land, you dash across the giant rock-dressed foreshore before disappearing inland through rainforests, under massive tree ferns, and past mighty waterfalls.
Finally, it’s time to saddle up on the mountain bike to the top of the Otway Ranges before enjoying a screaming (always figuratively, sometimes literally) descent to the beach-set transition and a short, sandy run to the finish line with a grin from ear to ear.

The Anaconda Adventure Race at Lorne can be completed in a range of categories to get anyone and everyone over the finish line:
- Individuals – do every leg as a non stop race
- Pairs – do every leg but in the company of your mate who’s by your side the whole way
- Relay teams – with up to 4 people where you do one (or more) legs each. A great way to get involved without being a super hero – build up a team of friends and work colleagues and join all the fun
