Welcome to Anaconda Adventure Race: Lorne

Welcome to the finale of the Anaconda Adventure Race National Series for 2012, hosted at Lorne Victoria’s adventure capital of the South on the world famous Great Ocean Road..

When      Saturday 8th and Sunday 9th December
Where Lorne, Great Ocean Road, Victoria
What An adventure event weekend for everyone

Race & Event Overview

For one weekend every year Lorne, the ‘Noosa of the South’, explodes in a sea of orange adrenalin as adventure punters descend on the seaside haven to surge along off road adventure courses that make the most of the region’s stunning ocean and hinterland wilderness areas.

This year, the wave of adventure seekers will swell in numbers with the introduction of the Anaconda Mini, a toned-down version of the premier race designed to entice those new to adventure racing (or those who just haven’t trained quite enough) to compete. Of course, the full length race is still on offer for those hardened athletes, weekend warriors and others happy to tackle the 50km main event and, for adventure racers of the future, there is the Junior Survivor for a bit of obstacle course fun.

The field of adventure for this event includes (for the main event) the famous pier to pub swim course, an awesome open water paddle from Lorne Main beach, some sand dashes, rock scrambles and fern fringed single trail on the runs and rollercoaster fun on the hinterland mountain bike trails behind Lorne.

With adventures this genuine it’s no great surprise that doing ‘the Anaconda’ has become a genuine institution across Australia and with upwards of 1200 competitors heading to Lorne for the first weekend in December, this is one of the biggest.

For the support crew of family and friends, there's plenty of local attractions plus an adventure expo with sponsors stands, market stalls, food, event bar, kids entertainment, live music and plenty more all on the scenic foreshore.

The place is special. The races are special. There’s something on offer of everyone. All that's missing from this adventure is you.

The three events happening over the course of the weekend are:

  • Anaconda Adventure Race – the premier event for the more experienced (or the more determined!) adventure racer that includes a 50km course, including ocean swimming and kayaking, mountain biking and trail running open to relay teams and individuals.
  • The Anaconda Mini – a new ‘half distance’ event designed for beginners and intermediate racers who cover an approx. 29.2km course. Also open to relay teams and individuals.
  • The Anaconda Junior Survivor – a super fun adventure challenge event designed and run especially for children aged between 5 and 13 years of age that gives them their own dose of off-road fun.

So lock Saturday December 8th and Sunday December 9th in the diary now, get the family out training, pack the car and book your accommodation because the Anaconda Adventure Race weekend is always a huge weekend down in Lorne!
