Car parking and access to the event
We recommend that people run or walk or ride their bikes to the event to save fossil fuels, or alternatively take public transport, but if you need to drive and park, there is a range of parking locations surrounding Studley Park as outlined below:
- There is some car parking in the public car park area at the Studley Park Boathouse, accessed off Yarra Boulevard
- Additional parking is along Yarra Boulevard on the road side
- There is a large amount of parking on the northern side of the river on Yarra Bend Rd and around Sir Herbert Olney Oval and Deep Rock Road. All parking on this side is accessed off Heidelberg Rd
Click here (or the image opposite) for a parking plan diagram.
Note. Access to the one way road loop at very northern end of Yarra Bend Rd (nearest the boathouse) will be restricted between 8:45am and 9:40am as this loop forms the start chute for the races.
Competitor identification
Number plates and timing tags
All competitors are required to wear their race number plate whilst running in the race.
- Your number plate will have a small timing tag stuck to the back of it so we can record your start and finish time. This tag looks just like a strip of foam, so please do not remove it from your number plate otherwise you will not get an official result
All runners must safety pin your unique number plate to the front of the shirt you wear during the run so it is easily visible from the front when you are running.
- Gold number plates denote runners who have entered the entire Salomon Trail Running Series, doing at least 3 of the 4 events in the series. Red number plates denote runners doing the long course and blue number plates denote short course runners.
- If you have a Gold number plate and are doing all races in the series please KEEP YOUR NUMBER PLATE and timing tag and use it for your following races. We will not be re-issuing number plates to series runners. If you forget to bring your gold number plate to the next race, there will be a fee for issuing another plate & timing chip
Number plate collection
- Competitors who entered Race #1 (or the series) before 5:00pm Wednesday June 19th will receive their event number plate in the post before the event. If you are going to be away from home or if you have not received it in the post by Thursday June 27th then please call the Rapid Ascent office on (03) 5261 5511
- Competitors who enter Race #1 (or the series) after 5:00pm Wednesday June 19th must collect their event number plate on race morning, Sunday June 30th between 7:00am and 8:30am (sharp) – from the race registration marquee at the Studley Park Boathouse
Once you have received your number plate (either via post or collection) then you do not need to ‘report in’ or register at the event venue on race morning, just warm up and then arrive at the start line ready to race!

Course marking
Trail running events are quite different to road running events in that they do require you to look and think a bit about where you are going because, not only will you pass through some lovely wilderness, but you need to KEEP AN EYE OUT FOR COURSE MARKINGS. Trail running courses are not lined with fences or red and white flagging tape and will not have marshals every 10m ready to hand you a drink and direct you where to go every step of the way - you need to keep an eye out for and follow the course markings to make your way around.
Having said that, if you have your head up and are looking where you are going the course will be easy to follow and will be marked as follows:
The Long Course will be marked with:
- red and/or orange arrows (pegged into the ground and fixed to trees or bushes)
- fluoro pink coloured plastic surveyor’s tape (tied to trees or bushes)
- and with white flour arrows marked on the ground
The Medium Course will be marked with:
- green arrows (pegged into the ground and fixed to trees or bushes)
- white coloured plastic surveyor’s tape (tied to trees or bushes)
- and with white flour arrows marked on the ground
The Short Course will be marked with:
- blue arrows (pegged into the ground and fixed to trees or bushes)
- aqua blue coloured plastic surveyor’s tape (tied to trees or bushes)
- and with white flour arrows marked on the ground
All track intersections will be clearly marked and care should be taken to follow the arrows. Surveyor’s tape will be placed immediately following a track junction to confirm you are on the correct track. Track markings on the longer, straighter sections, where there are no other options or intersections, will be far more spread out so take your time at the intersections to make sure you are on the right track. Unless otherwise marked or directed, competitors should follow the most major track at all intersections. If there is no arrow at a minor track junction then continue along the major track.
A course description can be found on the Course Description and Map page here.
Public transport
The closest train stations are Victoria Park and Collingwood (to the west of the event HQ) or a tram to the corner of Victoria Street and Burnley Street. Each is about a 1-2km distance from race start.
