Anaconda Adventure Races compared

The Anaconda Adventure Race Series: Three epic races; 12 brutal legs. How does one prepare effectively for each discipline, and which Anaconda Adventure Race is the hardest? Tony Freijah from Geelong has competed in all three races, so as he prepares for Lorne in a month's time, we asked him for some training tips.

Then to help settle a few arguments, we asked him which Anaconda course he found the most difficult. {Click here for the full story.}

Athlete Profile, Anaconda Adventure Race Lorne - Scott Kerrison

Team UrquhartScott Kerrison, 29, of Glen Waverley will tackle his first adventure race at Lorne next month. Like several of Scott's previous sporting achievements, he's approaching the race with loads of enthusiasm, and a lack of specific training.

Scott, we've all been there!

Like many adventure racing debutants, Scott's background is running, cycling and triathlon. While Scott is rightfully proud to have completed every City to Surf since 1996, a more accurate portrait is painted by his running the Sydney marathon after a longest training run of 15km, and having completed the Around the Bay in a Day with a solitary 100km training ride.

So with a passion for racing fresh, how's Scott going to prepare for the Anaconda Adventure Race in Lorne? {Click here for the full story.}

Lorne course familiarisation weekend

This Sunday 19th November is the final course familiarisation day for the Anaconda Adventure Race in Lorne. It's free and all are welcome, even those who aren't sure whether they really want to enter the race!

John Jacoby and Sam Maffett lean into the wave on a double spec ski ... showin' how it's done. Photo, Andrew ConnollyThe familiarisation day on Cup Day was a great success. Over 100 athletes enjoyed a rewarding day of training on the coast, while collecting numerous race tips.

The swimmers completed the full swim course, including a rare 500m swim up the Erskine River, with campers from the adjacent campground enjoying the spectacle as much as the swimmers themselves. Note, this section of the swim course will only be included on race day if the water quality is good enough, otherwise an ocean detour is on the cards.

The run course, unchanged from 2005, remains its brilliant self - ferns, coasteering and hills ... {Click here for full story.}

Highgear adventure racing story of the month

The battle for the Magellan Adventure Story of the Month competition is getting as hot as the Anaconda Adventure Races themselves.

This month's prize goes to Garry and Stevie Kruck, who raced as a father and daughter team at the Anaconda Adventure Race, Gold Coast. Quite a story, and a massive effort from 16yo Stevie!

They just beat Bruce Dunlop and his account of running backwards during last month's Upper Murray Challenge.

Meanwhile, a leading candidate for this month's Magellan Adventure Story of the Month is Paul Black, and his entertaining account of Anaconda WA.
