Course familiarisation days for Anaconda Lorne Surf Coast

We will be running course familiarisation days at Lorne for the Anaconda Adventure Race on Tuesday November 7th & Sunday November 19th, 2006. Note, the previously published familiarisation day on Sunday October 22nd 2006 has been cancelled.

We run these to allow competitors in the Anaconda Adventure Race at Lorne to check the course before the race itself, Rapid Ascent will be conducting two familiarisation days in the lead up to the big day. {Click here for more details.}

Reminder about weekly kayak training sessions in Melbourne

Just a reminder to let you know we are running informal paddling sessions every Sunday from 4pm at Sandridge beach, Port Melbourne. If you are getting ready for the Anaconda Adventure Race at Lorne but need to do a bit more paddling, or maybe your work colleagues have ‘dobbed you in’ for the kayak leg and you’ve never been in a boat before! Anaconda Adventure Race Forster NSW official launch

On Tuesday October 17th, the Mayor of Forster – Tuncurry, Councillor John Chadban officially launched the Anaconda Adventure Race at Forster, to take place in and around the township and surrounding National Parks on September 22 – 23, 2007.

With two TV channels there to capture the announcement along with representatives of GLITA (the Great Lakes International Triathlon Association), numerous VIPs and other stakeholders, Councilor Chadban expressed the town’s enthusiasm for the event ... {Click here for more details.}

Magellan: official GPS for Otway Odyssey MTB marathon

Magellan is the official GPS of the Otway Odyssey MTB marathon. Their Australian Distributor, Next Destination have invested significant resources towards mapping all of Australia, including streets, tracks, trails and topographic map contour lines to create the Magellan certified mapping DiscoverAus Streets & Tracks Topo.

When used in conjunction with a Magellan eXplorist 400, 500 or 600 model, this software enables you to view vertical profiles, check the terrain ahead and navigate some of the most remote and obscure MTB tracks in Australia. Bicycle Victoria event partners for Anaconda Adventure Race Lorne Surfcoast

Rapid Ascent have joined forces with Bicycle Victoria. Offering Australia's best bike crash insurance (amongst many other things), it really pays to be a member so join now .

You may have seen Ulli, Brendon and Deb from Rapid Ascent, who were in attendance at Bicycle Victoria's sports expo for Around the Bay in a Day in Melbourne last Sunday. More than 14,000 cyclists made this the biggest ever Around the Bay and it was a superbly organised event, congratulations to Kate Patterson and the team from Bicycle Victoria!

Rapid Ascent were also in attendance at the National Bike Show at Melbourne's Exhibition Buildings the same weekend. Thank-you to all of you who dropped in to say hello.

Freya Scollay & Matt Bacon from Team Hardtale.com Sporting history: Matt - Lost the appetite for competitive sport at age 17 after the politics of National League soccer interferred with the pure enjoyment of the game, started looking for adventure everywhere else and found comfort in wakeboarding, snow skiing, mountain biking, trekking and kayaking with mates. Turned to multi sport and endurance competition in 2002 after recovering from a serious accident. Been travelling the world racing AR ever since.

Highgear Adventure Story of the Month winner

Highgear / Magellan Adventure Story Competition Victorian Jarad Kohlar ”fresh” from his exploits at Anaconda Geographe Bay (where he won the King of the Cape combination, placed 2nd overall in the individual category and took out the fastest split in the Keen run leg) has scored himself another prize: a Highgear Heart Rate Monitor for winning the Highgear Magellan Adventure Story of the Month competition last month. {Click here for full story.}

Anglesea Mountain Bike Race

The Anglesea Mountain Bike Race, hosted by the newly established Surf Coast Offroad Riders (SCOR) mountain bike club in partnership with Rapid Ascent., organisers of the Lorne Anaconda Adventure Race, is to be held on Friday 8th December, 2006 starting at 6.00 pm. This race is a prelude to the main Anaconda Adventure Race and kicks off a huge weekend of action. The Kona 24hr Global Series & Subaru interactive@Docklands 12 Hour MTB Enduro

For those of you who are looking for other great MTB events in the lead up to next February's Otway Odyssey MTB marathon (and the newly announced Anglesea MTB race on Friday 8th December - just before Anaconda Lorne Surfcoast), look no further than Full Gas Promotions. These guys not only run week-in, week out dirt crits in Port Melbourne, but also a couple of 12 hour MTB enduros each year and the infamous Kona 24 Hour Global Series race at Redesdale.

Keen Adventure Race, Great Ocean Road, entrants receive ski priority

To keep things fair and to reward those people who have committed to compete in the Keen Adventure Race, Great Ocean Road next March we have decided to offer what double skis we have access to, to the competitors in the order that they have entered. We have a number of fully adjustable fibreglass double racing surf skis for hire at this stage. Hire cost will be approximately $500 for the week and a bond will also be taken in the event the skis are damaged . {Click here for more details.}

Jan and Kim's Anaconda Adventures

After racing in relay teams at last year's Anaconda Adventure Race at Lorne, partners in crime Jan Leverton and Kim Beckinsale from Queensland have leapt in at the deep end in 2006, competing in all three Anaconda races as individuals. Back in August at Anaconda Gold Coast, we saw Kim Beckinsale surprise many by holding down a podium position in Open female right up until those fateful questions in Currumbin Sanctuary.
