Bike Buller - MTB Festival

WHEN:  Saturday March 5th and Sunday March 6th, 2011
WHERE:  Mt Buller, Victoria, Australia
WHAT:  A super-fun, 2 day mountain bike stage race in the Victorian Alps
WHO:  Mountain bike riders of all abilities - recreational to racers

Event Overview

The Bike Buller MTB Festival brings all that is great about mountain biking to one spectacular location for a massive weekend of riding, single track, bikes, fresh air and partying at a place that is renowned for good times. After two incredibly popular events in 2009 and 2010, the 2011 event is going to be HUGE.

The Bike Buller Mountain Bike Festival is a two day stage race at magical Mt Buller in Victoria’s high country that will see a range of phenomenal events for all levels of rider taking place in an incredible alpine landscape. In fact, the 2011 event will see some evolutions to make this renowned riding weekend even better – like heaps of new single track, a new brake burner format and even more live music.

Events included as part of the weekend include:

  • 25km cross-country (XC ) race: along the cranking single track in and around the Mt Buller Village and neighbouring Corn Hill – new trails added for 2011
  • 4hr Brakeburner Enduro – Mt Buller Descent: a 4hr mutli-lap enduro down a flowing XC-downhill course where you catch the lift up as part of each 6km lap until 30minutes to go when you are directed down the 1,100m Mt Buller Super-D Descent to the very bottom of the mountain. This is as good as it gets! Suitable for XC bikes.
  • The Mt Buller Super D Descent: If the 4hr Brakeburner Enduro is not your thing, then get your own dose of XC-downhill fun with the 1,100m vertical Mt Buller Super-D Descent. Starting in groups of 5, you’ll race from top to bottom on a blasting hoot of a trail and then get a lift back up again. Nice. Suitable for XC bikes
  • 50km XC race: over Mt Stirling and back again on incredible new Glen Jacobs single track and flowing wilderness trails in a magical alpine setting
  • 10km kids ride: held on the single track around the village this is designed to gives kids a taste of the fun and enjoyment of mountain biking.

Do one race or do them all, riders of all abilities welcome to participate and enjoy the atmosphere.

Event Extras

  • A party-till-you-drop rider’s celebration on Saturday night at the Cattleman’s Cafe.
  • Bike Expo with a range of bike industry stands, displays and more.
  • Plenty of activities and things for non riders to do – bring the family.
  • Range of discounted accommodation on the mountain to suit any budget or style.
  • Round out the weekend with a casual BBQ and presentations on Sunday afternoon.

The Bike Buller MTB Festival is designed as a super fun mountain bike event for everyone; racers can race, recreational riders can enjoy the trails and the scenery, non riders can do their own thing and we can all get together to enjoy a good party on Saturday night. This is what riding is all about!

TRAINING

The Bike Buller MTB Festival is designed to be a fun event for all levels of rider, from racers to recreational cruisers. As with most things, the fitter you are often means the more fun and enjoyment you have as you have the time and the energy to take in the views, to chat to some of your fellow competitors and look around you. As such we encourage all participants to put a bit of time into preparing your bodies for the Bike Buller MTB Festival on March 21 and 22, 2009.

There is a bunch of information about training and preparing for a mountain bike race under the ‘MTB training’ link on the left – a good starting point being the ‘Basic Guidelines for Event Training and Preparation’ page linked here.
