Course Description and Maps

COURSE DESCRIPTION & MAPS

The course for the Anaconda Mini gives you many of the same off road adventures as the full distance Anaconda Adventure Race but in a smaller, sample sized version that’s full of fun.

Mini competitors will swim in the protected waters of Flinders Bay with the sandy bottom within clear view, paddle on Hardy Inlet and out through the sheltered river cutting beside the beach, run along scenic forest tracks on the outskirts of town and mountain bike on a range of flowing trails that all in all will fill you with woop woops of joy.

Designed so that just about anyone can be involved with a range of bite sized legs, the Anaconda Mini can be completed by individuals or relay teams of up to 4 doing one leg each.

Course description summary

(A more detailed description can be found below)

600m Swim (+500m run)

The Mini gets under way with all competitors lined up on the sand ready to race. After a quick dash across the sand you’ll dive head first into a friendly ocean swim in protected waters inside the reefs of Flinders Bay. Keep your eyes open and you’ll see friendly schools of fish darting here are there and the clear sandy bottom almost within reach of your toes. Swimming around a couple of buoys you’ll return to the beach for a 500m run across the sand spit to your kayaks waiting at Transition #1.

6.4km Inlet and Ocean paddle

Hand over to your team mate or find your boat and slide it into the tranquil waters of the Hardy Inlet for the next leg of your adventure. If the water and weather conditions are good you’ll paddle out through the river cutting and along theFlindersBay coastline to the boat ramp and back again (as illustrated in the map below). If the weather is not so friendly we’ll set a picturesque paddle course that remains on the Hardy Inlet so you can enjoy a calm water paddle that’s flanked by bushland, birdlife and waves of the friendly locals.

3kmTrail Run #1

Pulling back into the transition area you’re soon off on an enjoyable trail run through the bush that feels a world away from the coast, the township and the bustle of the TA. Get tothe top of the first hill and you’ll soon have a smile on your face as you run past wild flowers, fist sized gum nuts and extensive bushland before an enjoyable single track descent into the transition area at Flinders Bay and your next adventure.

11.6km Mountain Bike

Slap the hand of your MTB team mate or climb aboard your mountain bike and you’re soon enjoying the wind in your hair and the sweet smell of eucalypts as you cruise along 4WD tracks in the bush. The course is essentially flat the whole way as it does a lap of the airstrip and some of the local single tracks and 2WD tracks neighbouring the township. Descend back into the Flinders Bay TA (keep an eye out for slower paced runners) and you’re nearly done.

2.7kmCoastal Run #2

Hand over to your team runner again or quickly slip your running shoes back on and you’re off on the final leg leading to the finish. Along the way you’ll run along the beach, skip over a few rocks and then join the footpath before turning into the almighty finish chute in Turner Caravan Park. If you are in a team, then your team mates can either join you for the entire 2.7km coastal run or they can meet you on the footpath just 500m from the finish so you can waltz down the finish chute together as a team. Either way – you’re a champion as you’ve just finished the Anaconda Mini.

Anyone can do it...

  • Individuals – do all the legs listed above in continuous order as the one course from start to finish.
  • Relay teams – enter a team with up to 4 people where you do one (or more) legs each. A great way to get involved if you only do one sport (eg. running) so you can build up a team of friends and work colleagues and join all the fun.

Do another U-turn to the right around this buoy and paddle back towards TA.
