Not wearing your race bib as your outermost garment or not wearing it at all will incur a 15 minutes time penalty.
  • Competitors must use the same bike frame and wheels for the entire bike leg. You may receive assistance from other competitors to repair your bike. Penalty for using someone else’s bike frame or wheels and for lending your own bike frame or wheels to another competitor is 60 minutes for the borrower and 60 minutes for the lender.
  • Competitors must use the same boat for both paddle legs and may only receive assistance from other competitors to repair their own boat. Penalty for using someone else’s boat, for changing boats or for lending your boat to another competitor is 60 minutes for the borrower and 60 minutes for the lender.

  • Failure to abide by rules may result in time penalty or disqualification.
  • The two team mates entered into the Pairs category must remain within 50m of each other at all times, during all legs. Any pairs caught more than 50m apart will be given a 15 minute time penalty.
  • All teams are permitted to lodge protests against results or decisions enforced during the event. A judging panel of three Rapid Ascent Directors will adjudicate on all protests and other contentious matters, and their decision will be final.
  • Rapid Ascent has sole discretion to alter or amend the race format or the rules in order to increase the safety of participants or for any other reason deemed appropriate.

Cut off times

The cut off times listed below are provisional and may change (slightly) nearer the time
Cut-off times at each transition point will be strictly enforced.

  • End Swim 8:45am (i.e. 1 hour & 15 min for 1.9km)
  • End Ocean/River Paddle #1 10:00am (i.e. 1 hour 15 min for 6.0km)
  • End MTB 12:45pm (i.e. 2 hours 45 min for 34km)
  • End Run 2:45pm (i.e. 2 hours for 14.0km)

Cut Off procedures:

  • For teams who do not make the published cut off times, the next team member will be allowed to continue at the published cut off time but will be an unranked competitor.
  • All team members are still required to gather for the team run. E.g. if an athlete finishes their leg 10 minutes AFTER the cut-off, their next team member will have already been sent off at the cut-off. The person who missed the cut-off will still be required to get him/herself to the final transition area for the team run.
  • Individuals who miss a cut off may elect to miss the next leg and continue the race unranked

If you cannot complete a leg or are forced to stop or withdraw from a leg the following procedures will be followed:

  • You will not be permitted to return to that discipline but you can recommence the event with the next leg as an unranked competitor.
  • If you have been rescued on the water, you will be taken to the nearest beach or transition area. Or if you withdraw from the leg by landing on the beach please ensure you advise a race official of your location and condition as soon as possible – this will save us looking for you unnecessarily.
  • When you get to the next transition area, advise an official that you did not complete the leg and hand over to your team mate who can continue the rest of the course as an unranked team
  • An unranked team may still complete the rest of the event but your results will be listed below all competitors who did complete the whole course.
